Cycling competition for 2010 has been completed. Two athletes competed in the State Fall Tournament. Results are available at http://www.sonc.net.

We are currently seeking athletes interested in participating in our 2011 Spring Games.

Special Notes

  1. All athletes must have an updated participation form on file in our office and at the SONC state office BEFORE they can begin ANY practice.
  2. All athletes who hope to advance to state games MUST attend a cycling qualifier.
  3. Athletes MUST be able to travel and stay with the delegation without parents.
  4. Also, while all athletes interested in cycling are welcome to train and participate in local events, not all athletes will be selected to attend the state games.

History

After world-champion triathlete Mike Pigg conducted a clinic in 1990, cycling quickly became the foundation event for an endurance sport program.  Competition was first offered at the 1991 Fall Games in Raleigh, and continues to be a part of the Fall Tournament.

Events Offered

SONC offers eight different cycling events, offering something for every ability level.  Events range from a 500 meter time trial to a 40 kilometer road race.

  • 500m Time Trial
  • 1k Time Trial
  • 5k Time Trial
  • 5k Road Race
  • 10k Road Race
  • 15k Road Race
  • 25k Road Race
  • 40k Road Race

Competition Opportunities

Two qualifiers are offered in September at one central location where athletes participate in time trials, distances dependent on their category.

SONC Fall Tournament is held in High Point the first weekend of November.
